Interview - Stories & Insights
Meet Aurora Threats
We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Aurora Threats a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Aurora thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When was the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
I am quite sure many have found themselves in a similar situation, where traditional jobs didn’t align with their dreams and aspirations. It’s important to recognize and honor your own desires, but in the arts, you always need a cushion.
However, having flexibility is crucial, as it allows you to fully explore your creativity and tailor your experiences to your unique talents and interests. While it’s essential to be practical and fulfill your responsibilities, it’s important to take bold steps toward realizing your dreams. Don’t wait until your passion fades or slips away and wish you would have; seize the opportunity to pursue your creative endeavors and carve out your own space in the world.
Almost every great person has dedicated themselves to their pursuit … There comes a time one must take a leap of faith to create a life that resonates with their true essence. Embrace the joy that comes with it. I feel so blessed by pursuing and using the gifts God has placed within me.
Aurora, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My journey into the entertainment industry began with a deep-rooted passion for the craft, and a desire to create a space where I could fully express myself. With a degree in theatre under my belt, I dedicated myself to honing my skills, through rigorous training, practice, and classes.
Through a higher power that spoke to my soul, I blazed a unique path, writing, creating, and producing the award-winning short film “Supercilious”. As the film graced the screens of international film festivals, its thought-provoking content made an impact and earned widespread critical acclaim.
The most rewarding aspect of my journey is the impact that “Supercilious” made on its audiences and the industry, earning it a nomination for “Best Animated Short Form (Motion Picture)” at the 54th NAACP Image Awards. This recognition not only validates my hard work but serves as a testament to the power of dedication and unwavering faith.
I feel it’s relevant to announce my upcoming book entitled “A Gumbo of Poems & Quotes”, coming soon will debut the poem “Supercilious” by which the short film was fashioned. This thought-provoking commentary tackles the harsh truth of how some judge, label, and exclude others based on factors such as wealth, privilege, and biases.
I am basking in pure bliss and feeling grateful for where I am in life. Trusting in the guidance of the Almighty, I wholeheartedly believe that God will unveil the wonders of the world before you.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect for me of being an artist or creative is that the only limitation anyone has are the limitations they place upon themselves. In the world of entertainment, the more creative the more the arts open up to you. The more you dig deep to create the more you discover. The more you stay true to who you are your talents connect with you allowing for personal and artistic evolution.
The true rewards lie in the creation, the power to inspire, and the continuous growth that comes from embracing one’s true artistic identity keeps on evolving.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
I think non-creatives struggle with understanding why those who choose the creative path would do so over a traditional or regular job. Most can’t comprehend it because they feel it’s too risky and most don’t like taking risks. And, it is taking a big risk that’s why you set goals. Nonetheless, it’s the fire within an individual that drives them because it’s what they were born to do.
This is my belief because I have shared the best of both worlds. To work a traditional job no matter how rewarding often leaves a void. Especially when one’s talents or skills are tugging at their heart be it music, acting, sports, entrepreneurship, or the like working a traditional job would be unfulfilling. Incidentally, it’s not what you choose. It’s about knowing your purpose. The purpose of a person’s heart is deep waters, but one who has insight draws them out. It’s worth noting that individuals in the arts are capable of doing almost any job but most choose not to because they were born to inspire, create and entertain.
Ultimately, comprehending the creative journey is enlightenment that can empower individuals to embrace their authentic selves, honor their passions, and seek fulfillment through avenues that align with their deepest aspirations.
